Why Transformative Coaching Takes Guts

Video Poster Image

Helping others to see their blind spots isn’t always fun. You must be willing to challenge how your client thinks. If done the right way, there is a moment when they feel uncomfortable, but then everything changes. They see through the cracks. They see their limitations. They see what else they can do and they see who else they can be. And they always remember the coach who had the courage to help them see.

In this scenario, discomfort doesn’t mean “bad.” In fact, if you become good at creating the discomfort zone with challenging reflections and powerful questions, your coaching will result in more opportunities for profound new awareness.

The session starts by exploring new insights in learning based on current brain research. Then participants will learn skills for holding these mind-expanding conversations including how to access the innate intelligences of the three major centers of the neural network - the head, heart and gut - to ask the questions that disrupt thinking and expand perspective. These techniques can be used by leaders as well as coaches to help people see and accept new possibilities.

The coach’s job isn’t to make clients feel better; it’s to help them see better.
